The Golden State Warriors have come on strong early in the season, trying to make a statement for success. They currently sit at 3-1, their lone loss coming to the behemoth that is the LA Lakers. The hold the second ranking in the pacific division and are looking to go on a roll coming off a win against the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite being embarrassed by the Lakers, the Warriors have been rattling heads everywhere else they have played.
Starting point guard Stephen Curry is still out, nursing an ankle injury, and is classified as day to day. Despite this the Warriors have no lack of talent around the ball, and pose a major threat to any team not called the Lakers.
Against the Grizzlies Monta Ellis had an all star day, knocking down 39 points. To compliment his performance the entire team played extremely well. Golden state will need everything they can muster going into a game against a Utah Jazz team that is looking to cut down another savvy opponent.
The Utah Jazz have looked to be one of the best full units in the game, and are much better than their 2-2 record suggests. Utah has been getting strong production from every single member of the team, from starters down to the last man on the bench. Despite losing Kyrylo Fesenko, Mehmet Okur, and Jeremy Evans to injuries along the way nothing has truly shaken the Jazz. For every man than falls a new one steps up to take his place.
The Jazz could very well be 4-0 right now, however they stumbled a bit out of the gate this season, losing to both the Suns, and the Nuggets. Their last two outings have been impressive wins against the Raptors, and a very good Oklahoma Thunder team, that surprised many.
Despite the disparity in the records the Jazz are probably the favorite to win this game. Their offense has been clicking and they are playing at a very high level. If Utah wants to take this win they will need to score, and score fast. Their defense is adequate, but not impressive and it is something that the Warriors will strive to exploit. The Lakers set down the template needed to unseat the Warriors, and Utah has the kind of power offense that can follow that example.
The key to winning for the Warriors in this one if defense all the way. They have a stable offense that can pick and choose the shots, but the offense of the Jazz is not one to be trading points with. Utah has an absolutely lethal offensive attack, and if they build a lead is may be too much for the Warriors to overcome. Golden State will need to play hard, in your face defense to prevent playing from fifteen points behind the whole game. The Jazz are 2-0 when scoring over 100 points, and 0-2 when they score less. The Warriors best shot in this game is to keep the scoring manageable, they don’t play well from behind, so they need to keep it tight all the way.
